Practical answers for men over 50

OakMan Guide turns official health, money and home information into plain-English guides you can act on. Every page names the sources behind it.

What we cover

After 50, the questions change. Which checkups matter now? How do you keep strength and eat well without a diet plan? When does Medicare enrollment open, and what changes with Social Security? What should you fix around the house before winter? We write for men who want straight answers to questions like these, in four areas:

  • Men's Health: prostate, sleep, sexual health and the checkups worth asking about.
  • Fitness & Food: staying strong, moving every day and eating well after 50.
  • Money & Medicare: the facts and dates from Medicare.gov, Social Security and the IRS, explained simply.
  • Home & DIY: keeping a house safe, comfortable and in good repair.

Who runs OakMan Guide

OakMan Guide is owned and published by Marcos Salles, an independent publisher. The pages are written by the OakMan Guide Editorial Team. Marcos decides what we publish and is responsible for every page. We use AI tools to help research, summarize and draft, and every page is checked against the sources it cites before it goes live.

We are not doctors, pharmacists, financial advisers or lawyers. We write so you can walk into an appointment, an enrollment or a repair already knowing the basics, not to replace the professional who knows your situation.

How we write a guide

  • We start with the real question. The one men over 50 actually type into a search box, answered in the first lines of the page.
  • We read the official source. Health pages lean on the NIH, CDC, MedlinePlus and Mayo Clinic; money pages on Medicare.gov, the Social Security Administration and the IRS. Numbers come only from sources we read, and they are listed at the end of each guide.
  • We write it plainly. Short sentences, no hype, no miracle promises.
  • We keep it current. When an official number or date changes, we update the page and its date.

How we review a product

A small part of the site reviews products, such as supplements and a sleep tracker. Each one is scored on seven criteria, each out of 5: what the product promises, ease of use, how it is built and what data it publishes, evidence and research support, price for what it is, checkout, and guarantee. The criteria don't weigh the same, so the final score is a weighted average. It is a technical rating based on the label, the official page and the research, not a customer score or a test result. All reviews are listed on the product reviews page.

How this site makes money

Some pages include affiliate links to the official website of a product. If you buy through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Most guides have no product links at all, and a commission never decides what we write.
